The Mote In God's Eye is a novel by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle, first published in 1974. It's not a favorite novel and I think many premises of the story absurd. For example, the idea that a hereditary aristocracy could rule a galactic civilization is ridiculous. However, the book has never been adapted to film and, as far as I know, no one has ever attempted to design Moties, and they are particularly hard to imagine, so occasionally I play with them for design practice. Below are a few quick sketches.
A quick sketch of a Motie engineer drawn with ball point pen on a small sketch pad while riding on a train. Done from memory of the books description, I inadvertently altered some details.
An initial sketch of a Motie "demon". Beyond the fact that they are bred for combat, large and ominous, they are barely described in the book and therefore open to interpretation.
Another sketch of a Motie Engineer, following more accurately the description of the book, such as it is.
