Character Design: Moties

The Mote In God's Eye is a novel by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle, first published in 1974. It's not a favorite novel and I think many premises of the story absurd. For example, the idea that a hereditary aristocracy could rule a galactic civilization is ridiculous. However, the book has never been adapted to film and, as far as I know, no one has ever attempted to design Moties, and they are particularly hard to imagine, so occasionally I play with them for design practice. Below are a few quick sketches.

FIGURE DRAWING WORKSHOP 7/17(日)、7/31(日)、8/14(日)の13:00-16:00

7/31のワークショップでは素晴らしいモデルさんを、5分、10分、20分で様々なポーズを描くということをしました。彼女は次回8/14のモデルドローイングワークショップでもモデルを努めてくれます。IID(世田谷ものづくり学校)で8/14に開催される3時間のドローイングワークショップです。詳細をIIDのサイトでご確認の上、メールでお申し込み下さい：roganhazard@gmail.com

このワークショップの目的は、限られた時間でスケッチをする練習、そのテクニックの学習、通常のドローイングワークショップでやっている内容(基本のフォーム構造とその描き方)を更に応用するよいチャンスです。生でモデルさんを見て、３次元で人物の形をとらえ、正しく簡潔に描くとても良い練習になります。ご自分のスタイルで描きたいという方も大歓迎です。

The 7/31 workshop featured a beautiful model, who posed for 5, 10 and 20 minute poses over the course of 3 hours. The same model will be back on 8/14 for the final workshop.

The purpose of the workshop is to practice the techniques taught in my regular drawing workshop while working from a live model: beginning with basic forms to resolve proportions and shapes while thinking 3-dimensionally, finally resolving contour lines. However, those who simply want to draw in their own style are welcome to take advantage of this opportunity to work from an excellent model. Register by sending a message to: roganhazard@gmail.com
